The Royal Studies Network Virtual Forum evolved from the Digital Seminar Series (DSS), a monthly academic event aimed at offering a platform to help scholars enhance their engagement and outreach activities to reach a wider international audience, while also receiving feedback and improving their work. This year’s series of events aims to extend the original DSS into regular meetings for discussion and academic development for RSN’s members.

Sessions will be held once a month on Mondays, at 17th GMT, unless there is a better time for speakers and organisers. The 2026-2027 season will run according to a variety of themes and formats, looking to diversify the opportunities for researchers to grow and connect inside the network. To propose a new format, paper, or a theme for the discussion, please reach out by the 15th of the previous month.

Reading group #1

October’s RSN Virtual Forum session kicks off a new format: an informal discussion based on a piece of historiography. Participants are invited to read the text beforehand and bring their questions and comments to discuss with other researchers.

Monarchical Rule: continuities between Medieval and Modern

The second session of RSN’s Virtual Forum goes back to the traditional paper presentation and discussion format. The session aims to identify continuities in Monarchical rule across geographies, breaking traditional chronological barriers. If you are interested in presenting your research in the session, propose a paper via e-mail to RSN’s address. Papers that compare different chronologies or study a topic that can be paired with something similar for a different period are welcome. Presentations should be around 10 minutes long, to provide maximum time for discussion.
